FAQ

Do I have a transmission problem or not?

This is obviously step one. With most modern cars the vehicle has several ways to let you know that it is having an issue with the transmission. Some vehicles have check transmission lights or the OD button will flash. Others are limited to just a standard check engine light. If you feel something unusual in the shifting and it is accompanied by a light like the ones mentioned it is best to get it checked! Engine problems can also produce dire ability issues that FEEL like a transmission problem but in fact turn out to be engine misfires or air flow related components. Basic code scans and test drives are FREE at our shop. Remember it is not uncommon to require an advanced transmission diagnostics to get to the bottom of some transmission issues.

I need a "new" Transmission

Interesting term new. On most vehicles 3-5 years or older it is almost impossible to obtain a “brand new” transmission as the technology is constantly changing and rarely there are new models interchangeable with older ones anymore. So the term “new” can be misleading. Make sure you ask the questions about your new transmission to dig more in to the process of replacing your damaged one.

Computer controls

Modern automatic transmissions already come with sophisticated computer controls that integrate all the information obtained from various sensors such as vehicle speed, engine load, throttle position, brake pedal position, engine speed, and a whole lot more. The car’s computer controls the very precise points upon which shifts have to be made to make changing gears a lot smoother. All the information gathered by the sensors are synthesized and sent to the solenoid pack located inside the automatic transmission. The solenoids present in the pack will redirect the transmission fluid to the appropriate servo or clutch pack to manage or control shifting.

Frequently asked Questions

A car transmission is that part of the vehicle that transfers or transmits the rotational power generated by the engine to the car’s wheels. It cannot get any simpler than that. Unfortunately, like the way car engines work, there are a lot of things that are occurring all at the same time in this process of transmitting the energy from the engine to the wheel. And we are going to go through them one by one so you’ll have a better grasp at just how car transmissions work, regardless of their type.

Although it is normal for smoke to come out of a tailpipe, it shouldn’t be black. When the smoke is black, it means that there are a lot of toxins in it that can pollute the environment. For instance, there might be carbon monoxide mixed inside of the smoke. It is important for you to get the catalytic converter inspected, as it might be causing the problem and need a repair.

A few things can cause an engine to malfunction and not start as it should. Fuel is one of the things that the engine requires, and an insufficient amount of it can lead to starting problems. You might need to get new fuel lines installed inside of your car if they leak out fuel. The mass airflow sensor can also cause problems with fuel being delivered to the engine.

If your car has been overheating a lot, it is a fire hazard. Overheating is usually the result of the engine not receiving enough coolant. In some cases, a low level of coolant is responsible for the engine malfunctioning. You can get coolant for your car to see if the overheating stops. If adding more coolant doesn’t resolve the problem, the radiator might need attention. Coolant can’t be distributed without the radiator working.

It isn’t normal for the gears in your car to stall. If there is a delay when you are switching gears, get your transmission inspected as soon as possible. the transmission might be going out and don’t have the energy to power the gears up. It is also possible that your car is in need of transmission fluid.
